Renewable energy will catch up to coal-fired electricity and surpass nuclear as a share of America’s utility-scale power mix in 2021, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s latest short-term energy outlook released Feb. 11.
Fueled by additions of wind and solar generating capacity, renewable energy, including large-scale hydropower, will rise to roughly 21% of the mix in 2021, up from 17% in 2019.
